GTM Footballers Shine at Two Manchester FA Tournaments

It's been a fantastic few weeks for our Lifeskills football team, who have had the opportunity to take part in two brilliant tournaments organised by Manchester FA – the Beyond the Pitch Tournament and the Refugee World Cup.

Our players represented Greater Together Manchester with enthusiasm, determination and excellent sportsmanship across both events. More importantly, they had the chance to enjoy the game they love, meet new people and be part of an inclusive football community.

At the Beyond the Pitch Tournament, the team put in an impressive performance, finishing in a very respectable third place. Throughout the day, the players showed great teamwork, resilience and commitment, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to compete in such a positive and welcoming environment.

The Refugee World Cup 2026 was another fantastic experience, bringing together teams from across Greater Manchester to celebrate football's unique ability to unite people from different backgrounds and cultures. The tournament provided a chance to build friendships, boost confidence and simply enjoy being part of something bigger.

For many of the people who take part in our Lifeskills programme, football is about far more than the final score. It provides routine, improves physical and mental wellbeing, reduces social isolation and creates a sense of belonging. Through sport, participants build confidence, develop friendships and find opportunities to connect with their local community.

We'd like to say a huge thank you to Manchester FA for organising both tournaments and creating such welcoming, inclusive events where everyone could enjoy the beautiful game.

We're also incredibly grateful to City in the Community Foundation for providing our fantastic new football sirts. The players were so proud to wear their smart black Manchester City shirts, which looked brilliant alongside our distinctive GTM colours. Paired with our bright orange shorts and black and orange socks, the team certainly stood out on the pitch and were instantly recognisable as GTM. The players loved wearing the kit and felt a real sense of pride representing the charity.

Finally, thank you to A Good Thing (UK) for donating football-themed lip balms for our players. It was a thoughtful gesture that put plenty of smiles on faces and added an extra touch to two memorable days.

Congratulations to all of our players for representing Greater Together Manchester so brilliantly. We couldn't be prouder of the way you supported one another, played with such positivity and embodied the spirit of our Lifeskills programme.
