Helping Oldham Families Discover What's on Their Doorstep

Our Oldham Social Justice Champions have been continuing their work to strengthen their local community, this time by helping families discover the fantastic activities, services and support available right on their doorstep.

Following conversations with local residents, the Champions identified a common challenge: while there were plenty of free and affordable opportunities for children and families, many people simply didn't know they existed. Determined to change that, they organised a Summer Activities Information Fair, bringing together 18 local organisations in one place.

The event gave families the chance to meet community groups and learn about a wide range of opportunities, including creative activities, youth programmes, health services and food support. By making it easier to find out what's available, the Champions hope more families will be able to access the support and activities that can make a real difference over the summer holidays and beyond.

A special thank you goes to Jade, one of our Social Justice Champions, whose enthusiasm, dedication and hard work were instrumental in organising and delivering such a successful event.

The impact of the day was clear to see. Families told us they had discovered organisations and activities they had never heard of before and were excited to get involved during the summer. Sometimes, connecting people with opportunities is all it takes to help communities flourish.

At Greater Together Manchester, we're proud to support our Social Justice Champions as they listen to their communities, identify local needs and take practical action to bring people together. We hope the connections made through this event continue to benefit Oldham's families long after the summer holidays have ended.
